- =========================== GAME DESCRIPTION: ==============================
-
- Chain Reaction is based on the popular television game show of the same name.
- Players must try to guess words based on their relationship with the previous
- or following word. Players may request to be given letters of the words to
- help them solve the word. Each letter given by the computer, and each wrong
- guess reduces the players score. Therefore, the object is to guess all the
- words in the chain with as little help as possible, and with as few incorrect
- guesses as possible. The number of games per day is set by the system operator.
- Callers have the option to make up missed turns from previous days.
- The game is reset each month automatically. No need to run any maintance
- routines.
-
- The players may submit their own chains to the game. This helps to build an
- increasing database of words. All chains submitted must be approved by the
- system operator. When the system operator logs out of the game, he/she will
- be notified if there are any new submissions. So, even if you don't play the
- game, it is a good idea to log into the game periodically to update the
- game database. WARNING!! Do not attempt to manually add words to the data
- file using an editor. You risk making the data file unreadable.
-
-
- ============================ UPGRADE INFO: =================================
-
- Initial Release. Not applicable
-
-
- ============================== INSTALLATION: ===============================
-
- Installing Chain Reaction is fairly simple.
-
- First:
- Edit the CHREACT.CFG file. A description of each line is included in
- that file.
-
- Next:
- The command line for calling the game is
- CHREACT.EXE <path and filename of your bbs drop file>
-
- example: CHREACT c:\bbs\node1\door.sys
-
- Fossil Driver Support:
-
- Chain Reaction supports the use of Fossil drivers. The game should detect
- the Fossil driver if installed.
-
- NON-Standard Interupts:
-
- To tell Chain Reaction that you are using a Non-Standard IRQ setting, add
- /(x) to you command line, where x is the IRQ used.
-
- example: CHREACT c:\bbs\node1\door.sys/5
-
- This will tell the game to use IRQ 5. NOTE!!! No space is added between the
- dropfile path and the IRQ switch...
-
-
- SYSOP KEYS:
-
- F1 - Returns the caller involuntarily to the BBS.
- F2 - Hangs up on caller.
- F10 - Activates CHAT mode.
- ESC - Deactivates CHAT mode. DOOR is resumed.
-
-
- PLAYING LOCALLY:
-
- Just type CHREACT
-
-
- =================== WHAT IS THE OUTDOOR SYSTEM?: ===========================
-
- The outdoor system is simply a ASCII file created showing five lines of
- information that your BBS ( if possible ) can read to award the user either
- extra online time or extra credits. To use the system, you first must be
- using a BBS software that utilizes some sort of scripting language to
- perform bbs functions. To write a script compatible with the outdoor system
- the scripting language must allow you to:
- > Call the door from within the script itself.
- > Read the lines from the outdoor file.
- > Return to the script upon exiting the game.
- > Have a function to add either TIME or CREDITS to the users account
- > Return safely to your BBS.
- A sample script is included that can be used with VBBS. It is written in
- vscript. Many other BBS software offer scripting, and I will include
- sample scripts for those as they become available. If you write a working
- script or command file to read the outdoor file with your BBS, please
- send it along and I will include it for others to use as an example.
-
- The format of the OUTDOOR.1 file is simply:
- LINE 1 > USER NAME AS READ FROM THE BBS DROP FILE
- LINE 2 > NUMBER OF MINUTES TO ADD TO USERS ACCOUNT
- LINE 3 > NUMBER OF CREDITS TO ADD TO USERS ACCOUNT
- LINE 4 > NUMBER OF MINUTES TO ADD FOR SUBMITTING A NEW CHAIN
- LINE 5 > NUMBER OF CREDITS TO ADD FOR SUBMITTING A NEW CHAIN
-
- PLEASE NOTE!!! You can only specify either TIME or CREDITS. The game will not
- process both.
-
- To active the outdoor system, choose Y for line 7 of your CHREACT.CFG
-
- ========================== BENEFITS OF REGISTERING ==========================
-
- The shareware version of Chain Reaction does not allow your users to use the
- make-up missed plays feature. Other than that, the game is fully functional.
- Also, there is no exit screen displayed in the registered version. Plus the
- warm feeling you get when supporting the shareware concept.
-
-

- and the new options in the new versions!
